Here at Carburetor and Distributor Specialties, we pride ourselves on perfection. We strive to produce the best possible service and products available to the restoration community. It was this commitment that resulted in the breakthrough propriety Carburetor Restoration Coloring that is unmatched by other restorers.
Restorers have tried to replicate the original coloring on the Zinc Alloy castings but learned that the 40+ year-old casting would not accept the Dichromate finish unless the casting was first given a new flash plate of zinc. This resulted in carburetors that look nice, but are far from the appearance these bodies had when new. Low mileage, unrestored cars as well as New Old Stock bodies and carburetors document that these bodies had a matte iridescent finish. Unfortunately, when restorers zinc plate the alloy bodies before applying the Dichromate, it results in a carburetor that is much shinier, therefore incorrectly colored when compared to OEM original components.
Other "Restorers" offer dichromate coloring but are not properly preparing the components. This results in a body that has color but is drab in appearance and lacks the iridescence that these bodies had when new.
Carburetor and Distributor Specialties spent many years of committed research and development to overcome this challenge. We created a process by which the casting is brought back to the condition of when it was originally ejected from its mold. This casting is then Dichromate dipped, just as they were originally. The result is a finish that matches what was original to these carburetors in color, iridescence, and tone.
Carburetor and Distributor Specialties is proud to offer this service for those who wish to rebuild their carburetors themselves or for other restorers who wish to offer this finish to their customers.
Note- The castings on Rochester, Carter, and Holley carburetors changed significantly through the years. Early castings tend to be more porous while later castings are much nicer. This resulted in variations in color and iridescence when they were new. For example; both Rochester and Holley Carbs in the early to mid 60's appeared more "green" in color compared to later castings that appeared more "gold". Our coloring process follows suit and it is due to the castings, not the coloring process.
Carburetor and Distributor Specialties can fix carburetors that were previously incorrectly re-plated/colored! We can bring back the correct original color and finish!
