A PROPERLY FUNCTIONING AND PROPERLY CURVED DISTRIBUTOR IS THE FOUNDATION OF A PERFORMANCE ENGINE!
There is a reason why every worthwhile tuner in the 50's and 60's had a distributor machine! Given that fuels have changed significantly since these carbureted engines were built, a properly curved distributor is even more important today! Over 80% of what many believe are "Carburetor Problems" are actually distributor problems!
Don't be fooled into buying a "new" Chinese distributor on eBay and believe that it will give you the performance your engine is capable of! All distributors must be tuned to provide maximum performance! Even quality aftermarket distributors must be curved to your application. An OEM distributor that is properly rebuilt and curved will perform as well or better than aftermarket distributors on street-driven vehicles!
A distributor rebuild starts with a thorough inspection of your distributor for missing or broken components or worn bushings. If these were not previously identified, you will be contacted and advised of any additional cost to address these issues before work commences.
For restorations, your distributor is then completely disassembled and cleaned in a multi-step process that includes cleaning in a solvent tank, followed by a thorough cleaning in a heated ultrasonic cleaner to dislodge the smallest and most stubborn particles. Cast iron housings are then bead blasted while aluminum housings are subjected to a propriety cleaning/polishing /preparation that restores the original finish of the housing while preserving all original details and markings. Aluminum housings are clear-coated to prevent corrosion/discoloration
The Distributor is then lubricated and reassembled. Shaft end play is shimmed. On points distributors, a new triggering mechanism (points or electronic conversion) is installed. For HEI units a new pick-up coil and module are installed. Customers can request the components that came with their units be re-used if they are in operational condition.
Based on the customer's specific vehicle and engine components, a custom curve will be created for the distributor. The vacuum advance will be replaced and /or modified to complement this custom curve. The curve will be verified on a vintage distributor machine specifically designed for this service. You will receive instructions specific to your distributor as well as a graph plotting your custom curve.
